• The Best Disney Resorts for Large Families (and How to Fit Everyone!)

You’re headed to the most magical place on earth, but sometimes, when you’re a large family with 5+ people traveling together, accommodating everyone is hard. Have you ever tried to book a room that won’t let you add more than 5 guests? I have!

I’m a mom of 4 – so we’ve definitely experienced difficulty in finding the right vacation spots or hotels that fit the 6 of us.

At Disney, and other venues, room occupancy limits can definitely surprise families. Let me break down the best options for large families for staying together- or super close- to keep those magical vibes happening!

    1. For Families of 5 or Less
    2. Best Value Resorts for Large Families
    3. Multigenerational Families and Extra-Large Groups
    4. Splitting Up
    5. Offsite Options

For Families of 5 or Less

There are plenty of hotels that sleep 5, so I’ll list my top picks briefly and focus on those 6+ groups. Check these out below, as well as my quick walk through of Port Orleans Riverside.

    • Caribbean Beach Resort
    • Port Orleans Riverside
    • Polynesian Village Resort
    • Contemporary Resort
    • Beach & Yacht Club

Best Value Resorts for Large Families

Art of Animation and All-Star Music Resorts top the charts for large families with space for 6 in a family suite style room. At both these resorts you’ll have a dining table that pulls down into a bed, a pull-out sofa, and a bathroom in the main area. You’ll also have a separate room, almost like a master bedroom with a bathroom connected. That’s right, these suites have TWO BATHROOMS.

Literally, this was a huge perk for our family! I do not often share a bathroom with the boys at home because they are messy, and having our own space on vacation was amazing.

My 3 boys were able to share one bathroom, and my husband and I had one in the separated Master Suite style room. The kids would be situated and ready for bed in one room, and we could still move around, get cleaned up from the day, or prep clothes and pack a backpack and things for the next day with lights on while they slept and not disturb them.

    Art of Animation:

These suites are so fun and vibrant with Finding Nemo, Cars, Lion King and Little Mermaid themed Suites and themed sections. Click here to see a quick reel of the Art of Animation lobby which is connected to an arcade and food court!

    All-Star Music Resort:

All-Star Music has many different options and some of the most affordable rates in the park, but for large families, you’ll want to pick the Family Suites. Not only do these also have 2 bathrooms, but also a full fridge and freezer, plus a microwave and some counter space so you can bring some snacks and essentials with you or have them delivered to your room.

    Multigenerational Families and Extra-Large Groups

Even bigger groups, with grandparents or cousins and aunts and uncles involved, might consider checking out Deluxe Villas offered by Disney, with up to 3 rooms that can sleep 12. These also have some amazing features like full kitchens and in-room laundry machines.

    Splitting Up

Another option is splitting up your party. My husband and I have split up by taking 2 kids each, or one of us takes the boys and the other takes the baby. We have requested adjoining rooms that give us a connecting door so we can move back and forth between the rooms without exiting through the main door. We’re able to get our bigger boys situated and ready to sleep while the baby is already off to pixie-dusted dream land.

Pro tip: Large family accommodations aren’t always available – so book ahead of time or consider splitting up in adjoining rooms!

    Offsite Options

Offsite resorts are definitely an option. I love the perks of staying in the Disney bubble: the extra 30 minutes you can have in the park, access to the dining plan, and resort transportation. However, timing, budget, and desired accommodations don’t always line up with that. I highly recommend chatting with someone who knows the area for referrals to the best off-property spaces for your family!

Whatever the size of your family and your needs, I’d love to help you plan the most magical trip ever! I’ve got all the tips and tricks for doing Disney with a large family – you can grab my free guide here.

Busy and feeling overwhelmed? I’m here to help – I will take all the stress out of planning this trip for you – send me some details here, and I’ll be in touch to help!

  • If you’re craving thrills, movie magic, and unforgettable memories, Universal Orlando Resort is calling your name!

There’s something about walking into Universal Orlando that makes you feel like a kid again. The energy hits you right away – the music, the laughter, and that mix of excitement and butter popcorn in the air. From the moment you step through the gates, you’re transported into some of your favorite films and worlds – from The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, where you can sip on Butterbeer and soar with Hagrid, to Jurassic Park, where dinosaurs come to life right before your eyes.

    The Best Rides

If you’re the type of person who believes theme parks should feel like an adventure, this will be your happy place. Between Universal Studios Florida (USF) and Islands of Adventure (IOA), there’s no shortage of rides that make you laugh, scream, and say “one more time!” There is a ride for every mood – from pulse pounding roller coasters to immersive 3D adventures and nostalgic favorites.

Jurassic World VelociCoaster: for the daredevils. This one is not for the faint of heart! VelociCoaster in IOA is fast, fierce, and totally wild – just like its raptor namesakes! You will launch up to 70mph, soar over the lagoon and be tossed upside down more times than you can count.

Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure: for the Potterheads. Here you will immerse into the Forbidden Forest, but hang on tight! This coaster is pure storytelling magic, mixing thrills with heart. Whether you ride on Hagrid’s motorbike or tag along in the side car, you’ll zoom past creatures and spells, and there’s surprises around every corner!

The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man: for the Comic Book fans. A classic never gets old! You’ll join Spider-Man on a 3D adventure through the streets of New York running from villains and explosions as you “web-sling” through the city. It’s the perfect mix of nostalgia and high-tech fun.

E.T. Adventure: for the nostalgic souls. A gentle classic that has been part of Universal since the beginning. Get your intergalactic passport, hop on your bike, (but don’t worry, you don’t have to pedal!) and help E.T.’s friends get him back to his home planet. This ride is must-do for the whole family!

Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls: for the brave & okay with getting soaked. Don’t let this rides cartoon vibe fool you – this log flume is wild. You’ll laugh, scream, and get absolutely drenched! Pro tip: wear something that dries fast!

The Best Shows: Where Movies Come to Life

There’s no denying that Universal Orlando has some of the most heart-racing rides and jaw-dropping coasters, but the shows deserve their own spotlight! Between movie magic, musical moments, and stunt-filled spectacles, these shows are the perfect way to take a break from the heat and thrill rides without missing a beat!

The Bourne Stuntacular: Action that feels real. You’ve seen cool stunts before, right? Well not quite like this. This live performance is found in USF where it blends live actors with massive digital screens in a way that makes you forget what’s real and what’s not. The fights, chases and explosions – it’s pure movie magic brought to life.

The Blues Brothers Show: Classic fun & big energy. Jake and Elwood are back and they’re bringing the soul! These iconic characters take the stage in USF with live music, dancing, and that irresistible blues groove. When you see their car coming your way, run to that stage and get your dancing shoes on!

The Tales of Beedle the Bard & Celesina Warbeck and the Banshees: Wizarding World wonders. Found in Diagon Alley in USF are two magical performances for the Potterheads. Wizarding faily tales comes to life with puppetry and story telling during The Tales of Beedle the Bard while Celestina Warbeck and the Banshees will have you swaying with your Butterbeer in hand as they perform spellbinding, jazzy hits.

Dining at Universal Orlando: Where Every Meal Feels Like Part of an Adventure

Honestly, theme park food has come a long way, and Universal Orlando Resort might just be leading the pack. From Butterbeer and ice cream to full-service dining and hidden gems, there’s no shortage of places to sit down for a meal or grab a quick snack to treat yourself between rides. Whether you’re a foodie, a family always on the go, or that person who simply believes vacation calories just don’t count, here are some of my must-try stops!

Three Broomsticks: Found in IOA smack center in Hogsmeade. Roasted chicken, ribs and corn on the cob are all fan-favorites while my favorite is the classic Fish n’ Chips. In this rustic tavern sit down restaurant you can help yourself to a variety of Butterbeer (hot, cold or frozen) or order yourself an adult beverage from Hog’s Head located right at the back of Three Broomsticks.

Mel’s Drive-In: Found is USF right on the main drag of Hollywoood section. This retro dine vibe serves up the classic burgers that will bring you right back to the 1950’s. Pair that with a side of crispy onion rings and wash it down with a frothy milkshake as you jam out to the oldies on the jukebox.

Lard Lad Donuts: Found in the Springfield area of USF. Looking to take care of that sweet tooth? Let’s start with the classic! The Big Pink Donut is big enough to share! It’s massive, it’s pink, and it’s just what you need to fix that craving!

Florean Fortescue’s Ice-Cream Parlour: Found in Diagon Alley in USF. Be careful! It’s located right under a fire breathing dragon! Here you can find yourself all types of classic flavors and fun new twists your whole family will love. Serving up hard and soft ice cream in cones and cups with their most popular flavors being Butterbeer and Earl Grey & Lavender.

There’s no place quite like Universal Orlando – where every corner brings a new thrill, a new flavor, and a new story to experience. From Butterbeer cheers to coaster screams, it’s the ultimate destination for adventure loves of all ages! No matter what kind of park goer you are, there’s one guarantee: you’ll leave with your heart racing and your camera roll full.

When you’re ready to turn “someday” into “let’s go!”, I’m here to plan your perfect Universal getaway!

  • Tiana’s House Gumbo — A Disney-Inspired Bowl of Comfort

If you’re craving something warm, hearty, and full of flavor, this Tiana’s House Gumbo is pure comfort in a bowl — smoky sausage, tender chicken, and a little touch of Disney magic! Inspired by the version served at 1900 Park Fare in Disney’s Grand Floridian, this gumbo has become a Gamecocks game-day favorite in our house. Save this one for a chilly night, football weekend, or anytime you want to bring a taste of the Bayou (and a sprinkle of pixie dust) home. 💚

📌 Pin this recipe for later because once you taste it, it’ll be part of your family’s Disney story too!

This dish has now become a family favorite, a cozy game day tradition, and (I’m convinced) a big part of the reason my husband proudly calls himself a Disney adult.

    Where the Magic Began

It was one of those perfectly Disney evenings. Soft jazz music playing, chandeliers glowing, and that little extra sparkle in the air. We had gone to 1900 Park Fare for the character dining experience, expecting a fun night and a few characters to meet, but when my husband took his first bite of gumbo, I watched something magical happen.

He paused, looked down at his bowl, and said, “You’ve GOT to try this.” He knows me and knows that Cajun food isn’t my cup of tea (my body HATES spice), but he was so enthusiastic that I had to give it a go. And boy, was I glad I did!

That rich, smoky aroma, the layers of spice (but not too much spice), the warmth of the sausage it was a moment. From that point on, it wasn’t just about rides and fireworks for him; it was about the food, the flavors, the memories Disney serves with every bite.

And that’s when I knew that Disney had him.

Game Day Meets New Orleans Flavor

Fast forward a month to football season. The University of South Carolina Gamecocks were playing LSU, and in true Disney-meets-Southern fashion, my husband turned to me and said,

“It’s LSU… we’ve got to have gumbo for this game.”

    Challenge accepted.

While he set up for game day, I was in the kitchen whisking oil and flour, determined to bring back a taste of that Grand Floridian magic. My first attempt? Let’s just say the roux got a little too dark. But on the second try, I found the sweet spot: deep, nutty, and just right.

The moment we tasted it, we looked at each other and smiled it was that flavor. That cozy, smoky, soulful gumbo that started it all. Now, every football season, gumbo will be a must-have Gamecocks tradition. Win or lose, we’ve got comfort in a bowl.

    Tiana’s House Gumbo (Disney-Inspired Recipe)

    Servings: 6
    Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 1 hour 15 minutes

    Ingredients

    • ½ cup vegetable oil
    • ½ cup all-purpose flour
    • 1 large onion, diced
    • 1 green bell pepper, diced
    • 2 celery stalks, diced
    • 4 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 pound smoked sausage (like andouille), sliced
    • 1 pound chicken thighs or breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
    • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
    • 1 teaspoon thyme
    • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, but recommended!)
    • 2 bay leaves
    • 6 cups chicken stock
    • 2 cups okra, sliced (fresh or frozen)
    • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
    • Salt and pepper, to taste
    • Cooked white rice, for serving
    • Green onions and parsley, for garnish

    👩‍🍳 Instructions

    1. Start with the Roux
In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the oil over medium heat. Slowly whisk in the flour and stir constantly for 15–20 minutes until the mixture turns a deep, chocolate brown. Don’t walk away, this step builds the heart of your gumbo!
    2. Add the Holy Trinity
Stir in the onion, bell pepper, and celery. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes, then add the garlic. One cooked, add 1 cup of the chicken stock. (At this point you can leave it like it is and move on to step 3. However, I chose to blend these cooked veggies so my littles would eat it!)
    3. Add the Meats and Seasoning
Add the sausage and chicken. Sprinkle in paprika, thyme, cayenne, salt, and pepper. Let it all cook together for a few minutes to soak up that roux flavor.
    4. Simmer the Gumbo
Pour in chicken stock, bay leaves, Worcestershire sauce, and okra. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
    5. Taste and Adjust
Remove bay leaves and taste. Add more seasoning if needed, gumbo should be smoky, rich, and full of soul.
    6. Serve and Enjoy
Spoon gumbo over warm white rice and top with green onions and parsley.

A Little Disney Magic in Every Bowl

Every time I make this gumbo the house fills with that same cozy aroma that once floated through 1900 Park Fare, smoky, savory, and full of heart. It’s a little bit of New Orleans, a little bit of Disney, and a whole lot of comfort.

Whether it’s a cozy fall night or Gamecocks game day, Tiana’s House Gumbo has become our tradition a taste of magic that brings us right back to that first Disney meal. And who knows? Maybe it’ll turn someone in your house into a Disney adult too. 💫

Want to Taste Tiana’s Gumbo at 1900 Park Fare Yourself?

If reading this has your mouth watering and your heart dreaming of Disney, why not go straight to the source? You can enjoy the real Tiana’s House Gumbo at 1900 Park Fare inside Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort — where the flavors are rich, the atmosphere is full of magic, and every bite feels like a warm hug from New Orleans.

  • Disney Dining Plan…Worth It, or Waste??

When planning a Walt Disney World vacation, one of the most common questions I hear is: “Should I add a Disney Dining Plan?” Every family I have ever spoken with has asked that same question. I myself have debated whether it’s a smart investment or just an unnecessary expense. But here’s my honest take as someone who knows how quickly meals add up in the parks: the dining plans that Disney offers are so very worth it. Still not sold?? In this blog, we will be discussing the Disney Dining Plan (one of two dining plans that Disney offers). This plan includes 1 Snack, 1 Quick Service Meal, and 1 Table Service Meal per night of stay. The other dining plan is the Disney Quick Service Dining Plan where you receive 1 Snack and 2 Quick Service Meals per night of stay.

    1. Convenience
    2. Value
    3. Time Saver
    4. Snacks
    5. One Final Win…
    6. Dining Plan Special Offers

    Convenience

Let’s start with convenience. Picture yourself just having arrived to your resort. You did it! You made it to the most MAGICAL place on Earth, only to realize you’re with some of the HANGRIEST people on Earth. You’ve been running around at the airport or trying to not make that extra stop in the car and now you have become Snow White’s grumpiest dwarf. Imagine you booked the dining plan, no worries…you can run to the nearest eatery and grab a bite without stressing about “already” having to spend money. The “All Inclusive” feel of the dining plan is what sold my husband on adding it to our Disney package…and I don’t think we will ever go back. There’s something so freeing about arriving into the Walt Disney World “bubble” knowing that your meals are already taken care of. Instead of pulling out your card every time you order a meal or doing the mental math on whether you should split an entrée, you simply get to live in the moment and enjoy the experience. It feels almost like an all-inclusive vacation, which instantly takes the stress out of dining. On our most recent trip, we decided to use TWO of our table service credits at Storybook Dining at Artist Point, and it DID NOT disappoint! This one meal out of pocket would have cost 2/3 of the total price of the dining plan per adult. And with the dining plan we got this table service meal, a quick service meal, and a snack..all in the same day.

Pro Tip: If you check in later in the day like we do and don’t need to use all of your credits for that night of stay, you can bank them and use them another day! This will come in handy if you’re visiting EPOCT during the Food and Wine Festival (more to come on that in a sec).

    Value

This brings us to (in my humble opinion) the most obvious reason to choose the meal plan…the value! It’s truly undeniable (if you plan it right). Many table-service meals, especially character dining, cost as much or more than what you’d spend on a daily dining plan credit. A single character meal can easily run over $60 per adult, and that doesn’t even include the drinks or dessert. With the dining plan, those higher-priced meals are covered, meaning you’re often saving money while enjoying some of Disney’s most magical dining experiences! Who doesn’t love that?? Our favorite foodie day is BY FAR Animal Kingdom. Tusker House is a MUST DO for us every trip. We have visited for breakfast and lunch, but not dinner (we are a family that eats dinner later than most, so Animal Kingdom is usually closed by the time we’re ready to sit and eat). On our most recent trip, we also ate at Satu’li Canteen. After riding Flight of Passage, we stumbled into the canteen for the very first time. I had heard so many rave reviews I knew immediately I wanted to give it a go. I’m so glad we did, because their Cinnamon French Toast with blueberry cream cheese, passion fruit anglaise, and sausage was honestly the best surprise. It was warm, sweet, and just the right mix of flavors. The kind of breakfast that makes you pause for a second and think, yep, this is the perfect way to end a ride like that.

    Time Saver

One of the biggest hidden perks of the Disney Dining Plan is the ability to meet characters at meals instead of waiting in long lines inside the parks. Character dining experiences let you sit down, enjoy a delicious meal, and have Mickey, Minnie, the princesses, or even Stitch come right to your table. No standing in the hot sun, no sacrificing ride time, and no juggling tired kids in a queue. It’s the perfect way to get those signatures in your autograph book while still making the most of your park day. With the dining plan, those magical moments are already included. Our boys LOVE meeting the characters; the way my 1-year-old’s face lights up when he sees “Gicky Gouse” will be etched into my mind forever. A definite core memory, and I truly don’t know if I would have those memories if we didn’t have the dining plan because I am not a “wait in line for characters” mom. I would rather be waiting in line for a ride than a rushed meet-and-greet experience. When we go to character meals, the interactions are so personable, and at some restaurants, we see the characters MULTIPLE times. Our favorite character meal has to be 1900 Park Fare (and the strawberry soup….incredible).

    Snacks

Let’s talk about snacks. The dining plan includes snack credits, and these aren’t just for chips or bottled water. You can use them for iconic Disney treats like Dole Whip, churros, Mickey pretzels, or even festival items at EPCOT. That’s right…hello, snacking around the world. Those yummy booths in the World Showcase offer flavorful and gourmet bites in exchange for SNACK CREDITS. I know. Mind blown. Snack credits make it easy to indulge without guilt, and for families with kids, they’re lifesavers when someone gets hungry between rides.

    One Final Win…

Now, some people worry about flexibility, and yes, you’ll want to plan out your meals to make the most of your credits. But that’s not necessarily a drawback, it’s an opportunity to secure reservations at must-do restaurants ahead of time. With planning, you’ll walk into your vacation with peace of mind, knowing you’ve already locked in incredible dining experiences.

Another hidden benefit? No more “sticker shock.” Disney menus can be overwhelming, and without the dining plan, it’s easy to second-guess whether you should order what you really want. With the plan, you simply pick your meal, relax, and enjoy without worrying about the price tag.

Even picky eaters or light eaters can benefit when you consider the variety Disney offers. From buffets with endless options to quick-service spots that cater to all tastes, it’s easy to find something everyone in your group will enjoy. And if someone doesn’t use every single credit, you can still stock up on packaged snacks before leaving the parks.

In the end, the Disney Dining Plan isn’t just about food, it’s about peace of mind, value, and curating memories. For families who want to experience the magic without constantly worrying about budgets or prices, the plan is a game-changer. You can add a Disney Dining Plan to your package and make payments on it until 30 days prior to check-in.

So, worth it or waste? For me, it’s absolutely worth it. With the right planning, the Disney Dining Plan not only saves you money but also adds an extra layer of magic to your trip. After all, Disney food is part of the experience, and with the dining plan, you can savor every bite.

  • My “home” park is Disneyland. I grew up going there and took my kids many, many times.

I’d been to Disney World as a child but didn’t have much memory of it. Two years ago, we took our family to Disney World and really experienced it for the first time; and it is VASTLY different. Here’s everything that surprised me on the differences between the two parks.

    1. Size
    2. Transportation
    3. Food
    4. Castle

    Size

Bottom line, Disneyland as a whole is walkable. Walt Disney World is not. You can walk from offsite hotels, and onsite hotels to get to the main entrance of Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure. You can easily and quickly walk from Disneyland, to California Adventure as the two share a main entry plaza.

At Disneyland, you can walk from one entrance to the other. The two park entrances share a main court yard.
Park hopping is easy and there is no need for transportation to take you from one park to the other.

There are 3 hotels on property at Disneyland, and they are all walkable or have their own entrance into the parks. Many of the surrounding good neighbor hotels are walkable too, as well as many parking areas.

At Walt Disney World, transportation from hotel to park entrance is a MUST at nearly every single location. Park to park transportation is also a must.

Disneyland is about 500 total acres whereas Walt Disney world is closer to 25,000 acres.

Personally, I could do nearly everything I wanted to do in a day hopping from Disneyland to Disney’s California Adventure. At WDW, I found the process to get from hotel to park tiring and long, so we didn’t enjoy going back to the hotel for an afternoon break or park hopping.

    Transportation

Disneyland offers a Resort Tram from parking garages or a short monorail ride that takes you from Downtown Disney to Disneyland.

WDW offers boats, the Disney Skyliner, bus, or monorail to get to and from the parks and hotels. This was definitely fun, and the Disney Skyliner is pretty cool. On our first trip, we were confused as to which went where, but Cast Members were super helpful. I think the biggest struggle was remembering which mode of transportation took you where you needed to go.

As I was planning our WDW trip, I was so confused on how to get from our hotel to a character breakfast that was at a different resort. We ended up having to take 2 modes of transportation, and it was a little confusing.

Also, note with strollers, sometimes you have to fold everything up, and sometimes you can leave your stroller or double stroller open, like on the Skyliner.

There are additional options at Disney World like Minnie Vans, Ubers, and more that can get you where you need to go within the Disney bubble.

    Food

This was a big one for me. Hot take: Disneyland food is better. I said what I said.

Beyond that, the prix-fixe menu prices really got me. It’s my fault for not reading a little bit more carefully, but that definitely surprised me. I have zero memory of Disneyland having any type of prix-fixe menu except for some specialty things like the Fantasmic Dining package – which was expected.

Disney World, however, had several. We had some dining reservations planned out, and I was a little shocked at the cost.

Be Our Guest is a great example. I was super excited for this dining experience, which was super cool. My food was delicious. My kids loved dessert, but the rest of the meal was not great.

A kids’ meal was $42 each. They got to pick an appetizer, an entree with 2 sides, a drink, and dessert. So basically, for $42 my kids ate fruit and chicken strips that they picked out.

This isn’t on Disney; it’s definitely on me for not reading clearly and knowing the details that were a huge difference for someone who is used to Disneyland. I talk about the Be Our Guest restaurant experience over on my Instagram if you want a peek!

    Castle

Alright, I’m a Disneyland girl at heart, but Walt Disney World has a leg up in the castle department. Cinderella’s castle is huge, and beautiful, and I definitely have castle envy! Cinderella’s Castle at WDW is more than double the size of Sleeping Beauty’s castle. While both are beautiful, you are in for quite a shock when you are used to one park and go to the other.

    But….which is better?

Well, isn’t that the question? Both are fantastic but are wildly different experiences in my opinion! If you don’t have to worry about flying, I find Disneyland more walkable, less expensive, and with the potential to be a short trip. I love the food, the vibe, and the weather is idyllic nearly all year. Walt Disney World has so much to offer when staying in the Disney bubble! The resorts are beautiful, and the different transportation options are fun. The different parks are super cool and an experience everyone should have!

  • As we turn the corner from summer into fall, it is time for another Hispanic Heritage Month (HHM).  HHM runs each year from September 15-October 15, but why? My husband’s answer: because Hispanics are always late, but then they don’t know how to leave.  The real answer: to incorporate the Independence Day anniversaries of several Hispanic countries.

This year for HHM, the Disney Parks, Resorts, and Disney Springs are coming alive for the celebration “Together We are Magia” that offers an array of incredible experiences to honor the rich cultures and vibrant traditions of Hispanic countries.

    Food that Tells a Story
One of the most exciting ways to experience this celebration is through your taste buds. Disney’s culinary teams have crafted an incredible array of specialty foods and beverages inspired by Hispanic cuisine. At EPCOT, you can find a variety of sips and snacks at the Global Marketplace during the Food and Wine Festival. Some of the offerings include: Peruvian Ceviche, Birria Tacos and of course, churros. • There is a new reason to get off the ship in Nassau!

I have been to Nassau, Bahamas more times than I can count on a cruise. In 2024, 5.6 million passengers arrived at the port of Nassau on a cruise ship! According to Business Insider, it is the 3rd most visited port in the world. Isn’t it funny that all the cruise experts say to “stay on the ship”?

We tried visiting Atlantis and the free beach next to it called Cable Beach. We also did a glass-bottom boat tour, had too many drinks at Senor Frogs, and I even went wedding ring shopping in the jewelry stores. Nothing wowed me, and after giving it many tries with and without children, I decided that the next time I visited, I would stay on the boat. I gave it all a fair try. (The kids absolutely were bored out of their minds on the glass bottom boat.)

I know I am supposed to be talking you into getting off the boat, but staying on does have its perks, and I thought I would do a better job by helping you make an informed decision here!

5 Reasons Experts Say to Stay On The Ship in Nassau

    • The pools can be small on the ship, and while everyone is off enjoying the port, you can finally float around in peace in the empty pool. Drop the kids at the kids’ club and get that peace and quiet a mom needs!
    • It is already paid for. There is no need to buy food or pay for activities when you can take advantage of the things you already paid for and save a LOT of money!
    • Some ships have special activities scheduled on that port day because they know it is a popular port to skip. Disney cruises offer an inflatable Incredibles course that day!
    • You can enjoy massages at the spa, wine tastings, dance lessons, bingo, and trivia. There is no shortage of things to do when you stay on the ship!
    • You can take advantage of things like Flow Rider, water slides, obstacle courses, and other activities that usually have long lines on the days at sea.

This is a paradise more beautiful than our wildest dreams could have imagined. This… is… Baha Mar.

Baha Mar is an impressive piece of paradise in Nassau, featuring a beautiful beach, numerous pools, including a shark pool, a pool with cabanas, a wave pool, and a lazy river. They offer a variety of dining options, including food trucks, sit-down restaurants, boutiques, and shacks. But they also have an incredible water park boasting 24 water slides that, without a doubt, blow Atlantis away. This property has three hotels on site: the Grand Hyatt, Rosewood, and SLS. Although it has the feel of an all-inclusive resort, it is not an all-inclusive resort. After visiting here, I realize everyone needs to get off the ship and come here! Check out everything on the map below; it is a very large property with something for everyone, from relaxation to the highest thrills.

1.) Let’s start from the bottom right. We have Baha Bay Lagoon with a wave pool and a very tall water slide called Devil’s Backbone. There is a sandy beach area with plenty of chairs. It reminded me very much of the sandy area in front of the Volcano at the Volcano Bay water park in Universal Orlando. I could easily just sit on a lounge chair for hours reading a good book, while the kids enjoyed themselves in the water.

2.) Right next to the wave pool are two sets of slides that are for adventurous visitors. They are Cyclone Rush and the Dueling Rip Tide Coaster. My 6-year-old did not meet the height requirement for these slides, which were a minimum of 48 inches. However, my 8-year-old daughter and my husband had a blast!. Pictured to the right is Cyclone Rush.

3.) In the center of the resort and water park is a quarter-mile-long lazy river. It is a beautiful centerpiece circling around the heart of the resort. Entering the pool is easy! There is a zero-entry wide opening with tubes you can grab without waiting in line. They had single and double tubes to choose from.

The river starts traditionally, lazy. You float along, admiring the tropical flowers and trees. They spared no expense on the impressive landscaping. You venture through tunnels and can even watch their display of parrots.

But don’t be fooled, this lazy river does have some adventure. You can expect to experience some waterfalls. I was able to avoid them by paddling away. My kids chose to go under them. The best part is you can go around as many times as you would like!

4.) In the center of the Lazy river are two separate play areas for school-aged kids, toddlers, and babies. We could have spent our entire time here playing on the slides and splashing in the pools. To the left pictured is Sting Ray Cove, which has 6 slides, water sprayers, dumping buckets, and waterfalls. Fun was being had by all, and children were laughing right along with the grown-ups in this adventure zone!

Right in front of it was a relaxing area for adults to unwind while their children were in view.

The other area for smaller kids is called Turtle Beach. You can rent a cabana for the day there. They have a kiddie pool, water sprayers to run through, and 5 smaller but fun slides to go down. Some of them are wide enough for the whole family to go down together. For families with little kids, this beats the shiip pool, which does not allow babies with swim diapers to enter.

    Beach & Food Trucks

    Shark Pool

5.) Through the resort entrance, there are the three brands of hotels you can stay at. They are the SLS, Hyatt, and Rosewood hotels.
For pricing and information on these hotels, I can give you a quote here. Through this entrance, there are several different pools. One of them is a more relaxing pool with cabanas, but my favorite is the top right, the Shark Pool! They have all these adorable food trucks along the beach, as well as sit-down restaurants and bars. There are many places to sit on the sand and eat. They also have beach chairs and water sports. There is SO MUCH TO DO HERE! It is an upgrade from the cruise ship to go to this part of the resort. I do recommend doing that if relaxing is your thing.

6.) Last but not least, they have a Flow Rider where you can do boogie boarding or surfing. My kids were old enough for the Boogie Boards. They took several turns while we were there. In the past, places we visited charged us extra to do it, or there was a very competitive sign-up slot available to do it. This was the longest line of the day, only because you go one at a time, and they do allow you to take time to learn. It was fun to watch the people try, and watching them wipe out was even more entertaining! So waiting was not as painful as it was for other rides. This was the most memorable part of our cruise! Both of my kids listed this first when we reviewed all our memories from this cruise!

Are you thinking about cruising? Leave me a comment about which cruise you are taking to Nassau. Are you convinced to get off the ship and give Baha Bay at Baha Mar a try, or are you still staying on the boat? Have you changed your entire plan and now want to stay on-site? Tell me everything in the comments. I am here for the debate on staying on the ship.
